A Powder Puff Evening

Recently I came to the conclusion that I just don’t get out enough, so when I saw that Holt Renfrew was holding a Powder Puff Beauty Party, basically an evening of pampering, I jumped at the chance to go and dragged a few friends out as well.

We went not really knowing what to expect, but in the end we had a great time. I feel the need to apologize for my pictures, it was so packed that I couldn’t comfortably pull out my camera. Thank goodness for camera phones, what a life saver!

We indulged in hand massages and watched an amazing artist hand paint designs on bottles of perfume.

There were waiters carrying yummy hors d’eouvres (think grapes covered in goat cheese, rolled in nuts and tuna tataki), great drinks and all the beauty products you could possibly want.

Of course you know what that means….Samples!!! Yup gifts with purchase and enough wonderful creams and lipsticks to last me for a good long while.

I did go with the plan to purchase a foundation from Armani that I’ve previously used and love (face fabric) as well as a sheer red lipstick (#401) which I find perfect for everyday wear. It gives me just a hint of colour. Generally I’m a fan of red lips, you know the kind that walk into a room 10 minutes before you do but for everyday in a casual city like Vancouver, well let’s just say I feel more comfortable toning it down a little.

I feel like I scored on the gift with purchase though. I got two eye creams (can never have enough of those), an intense red lipgloss (from Armani’s new line, Lip Maestro #400), a lovely pink lipstick with a hint of sparkle that will be great for spring/summer and my goodies all came a in a beautiful black velvet bag. Perfect! I also picked up some samples from La Mer and AmorePacific and Laura Mercier. Can’t wait to do some reviews!

I’m too excited to hold back on one of the other samples I picked up. It was very random but I tried the Essence Absolue nourishing oil-in-cream from Shu Uemura. It’s an oil based cream with a bit of hold. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have healthy hair to begin with so I wasn’t expecting much. Well I have to tell you that my hair has never been this soft and I have been touching it all day. I am slowly falling in love….

This was definitely the perfect night with great friends!
